29 Oct 2010This video comes to us via Producciones Cimarrón and features a young Latino named Juan, who would benefit from the passage of the DREAM Act as it stands now, but he argues that DREAM as it stands now, especially the Education clause, would only help a small portion of young immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. Juan argues that the majority of undocumented youth (67%), whose access to quality higher education is limited because of finances and the way the education in our neighborhoods works, would have to opt for the military option in order to become legal residents. Juan proposes adding additional components to the DREAM Act, like community service and financial assistance, in order to lessen the likelihood of DREAM being used as a military recruitment funnel.

I really feel bad for these fine young people. What a terrible hand they’ve been dealt in life.
We should never let them down,we should do all we can do keep them here so that they may survive -make a decent life for themselves.
At this time for most part most Latinos find themsleves confused,bewildered..quite frankly most of us don’t know what we can do from this point on to resolve this immigration situation given the fact that what we fought for before -to bring about-true immigration reform-was sold out and betrayed by our treacherous allies and our gutless leaders who capitulated and gave in to the racists and xenophobes out there who have the numbers- hold the reign of power, wealth and privelege.
Latinos need to keep pushing forward for a solution to this problem.I believe that our greatest weapon is to be found in our Unity.Perhaps we should consider and explore this option deeper and concentrate more on self-reliance instead of putting all our faith-all of our eggs-into the democratic party basket..
With Unity we can overcome.
Let’s keep thinking..

Good morning Chicano future tense. Bueno Harry Reid says that he is going to introduce the DREAM Act post election. That is the DREAM Act as it stands now. So my guess is that there is going to be a big push for that. Then I guess we’ll wait and see what happens. I mean. I always have been critical of the military option to the DREAM Act and have said so and alot of that has to do with my personal relationship with U.S. citizenship and military interventions in Latin America but also with the awareness and acknowledgement that as a documented person, it’s not my place to lead that movement or tell undocumented people what to do.
From a straight up policy perspective however, I don’t see why there shouldn’t be something like an Americorp component to the DREAM Act. No se if it’s too late now though.
