Selvin has been in detention since April of this year following a traffic accident.
The “DREAM Now Series: Letters to Barack Obama” is a social media campaign that launched Monday, July 19, to underscore the urgent need to pass the DREAM Act. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, S. 729, would help tens of thousands of young people, American in all but paperwork, to earn legal status, provided they graduate from U.S. high schools, have good moral character, and complete either two years of college or military service. With broader comprehensive immigration reform stuck in partisan gridlock, the time is now for the White House and Congress to step up and pass the DREAM Act!
Dora The Explorer Cuts A Rug!

I really do love this video and when I got approval from our in-house youth editor, I knew I could bring it to you all. Not only is Dora an explorer but she is a slayer of mice on the dance floor! To Mexico City! : Supreme Court Declares Gay Married Couples Can Adopt

On Monday, with a 9 to 2 vote, the Mexican Supreme Court decided that married gay couple have the right to adopt children in el D.F. This follows an earlier court decision in Mexico City upholding the legality of same-sex marriages.
The issue of same-sex marriage and adoption was raised to the Supreme Court by the Attorney General under Mexican President Felipe Calderon. The lawsuit alleged that gay marriages and adoption went against the idea of family and put children at risk.

California to Gay Couples : You Can’t Get Married.Ok You can. Um..Never Mind

The narrative feels a little like a novela, with California’s courts playing fickle lover to the devoted, fight till the end marriage equity crowd.
Earlier this month, Proposition 8, which barred same sex marriage in California, was shot down by a Federal Judge. Not surprisingly, the appeal was immediate which halted marriages first until tomorrow. Then yesterday, a federal court in San Francisco blocked the stay from being overturned until a hearing, expected in early December.
In the meantime, everyone can move to Mexico City.

The Nicholas Naquan Heyward Jr. Memorial Foundation Inc.Invites you to our 16 Annual Day of Remembrance for Nicholas Heyward, Jr.
Nicholas was a 13 year old honor student from Boerum Hill Gowanus Houses, Killed by housing police, while playing cops & robbers. I met Nicolas Sr., in the late 1990′s when I was a teenager just getting politicized and working against police brutality in NYC during the “Giuliani Time”. Nicholas Sr., was one of the few fathers, among mothers who held marches, rallies, and followed then Mayor Giuliani, making sure that wherever he and his police chief was, so were we, with pictures of the dead. When Nicholas was killed all he was doing was playing, the way children should. When Nicholas was killed, the Housing Police were separate from the NYPD. So many years later, Nicholas’ father struggles on against a police force that has consolidated power and now runs the projects, the subways, and the schools (as well as the streets). So many years later, Nicholas and I see each other at rallies, now I have a child who will be the same age Nicholas was when he was shot and killed, and we hug, as parents, as fighters.

With the boost in Secure Communities and more boots on the ground on the U.S. Mexican Frontera, every so often the debate among bloggers, advocates and activists becomes one of strategy. Do we spend time countering the ridiculous anti-14th amendment narrative and debate “antis” or do we take and make a more critical analysis and dare hold so-called political allies feet to the fire at the risk of being called “trouble makers”?
The expectation is that people of color bloggers, Latinos and in the very specific case of VivirLatino, radical women of color bloggers, should always side against the obvious enemy: the Republicans talking about our vaginas dropping anchor babies and putting us into camps. The actions of Democrats, specifically a man of color, the first African American president, are supposed to be given a free pass. Patience is asked and we should never ever look like we are on the same side as those that question the validity of birth certificates.
