The Latest Anti-Latino, Hate Law in Arizona Bans Ethnic Studies

Arizona legislators are on a roll with showing how much they hate everything non-white and showing the depths of illogical hate with the passing of HB 2281.

Via Latino Politico & AZ Daily Star

HB 2281 would make it illegal for a school district to have any courses or classes that promote the overthrow of the U.S. government, are designed primarily for students of a particular ethnic group or advocate ethnic solidarity “instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals.”

It also would ban classes that “promote resentment toward a race or class of people.”

Of course this law only makes sense in the context of growing anti-Latino hate. Surely there will be no attempts to ban the teaching of the supremacy of the Europeans who came to what is now Arizona in order to “civilize” it. Certainly no one will object to the calls for people to organize against brown people or those with last names that end in z’s or make you roll your r’s. This law in itself is an example of resentment against a growing class of people : Latinos.

Sen. Linda Lopez, D-Tucson, said the legislation is little more than a thinly disguised effort to quash a program TUSD officials have said was proven academically successful.

According to TUSD officials, the program in the district’s Mexican-American studies department simply provides historical information, which conflicts with state School Superintendent Tom Horne’s assessment the program is promoting racial hatred and “ethnic chauvinism.”

Boycott Arizona! Start people’s schools that teach the real history of our people and struggle to our children and our community! These laws are only making the solidarity among Latinos stronger.

This takes the cake over Texas’ education laws. Both did the same thing, but this one reverses an already proven method of teaching. Maybe Michael J. Fox can warn Arizona of the dangers of going “back to the future”.

Theyre just on a roll out there huh. i wonder if i could argue that their current lessons and the ones proposed in Texas deeply offend me and so they promote my resentment at a particular race and class. They would be breaking their own laws…

Bryan, no se if it is worse than Texas on it’s own. I think what makes this law worse is that it’s part of a series of clearly anti-Mexican, anti-Latino laws.

Also gracias for the email. Good idea to send messages of support.

Sabina, that was exactly my point. They can dish it but they won’t take it. Cobardes

Arizona’s war on Mexicans continues..

from the Huffington Post
Jeff Biggers

..”Desperados! Now Arizona Lawmakers Want to Ban Cesar Chavez and Mexican American Studies in Schools?

“The white-washing of Arizona — and its glorious history — marches on.

In a thinly veiled attempt to censor thriving Mexican American Studies/La Raza courses in Tucson, Arizona, and essentially eradicate 450 years of Mexican and Mexican-American history, culture, heritage from the curriculum and consciousness of Arizona students, state lawmakers in Arizona reportedly approved the shadowy HB 2211 bill last month — passed through the state senate this week — that would restrict “any courses or classes” that “are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group” or “advocate ethnic solidarity.”

According to news reports, the bill would also “ban classes that ‘promote resentment toward a race or class of people’ or “stir up resentment.”….

If that’s their argument then they also should stop teaching american history..

I’m not a bible thumper but I found this quote from the prophet Isaiah in the Old Testament to be very apropo..
..”Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees..”and the recorders who make mischievous records, that thrust aside the needy from their rights and rob my poor ones of justice”..

so you see even God is pissed off at Arizona !!

Are you high:

Em, the Major League Baseball Player’s Association, which speaks for all of the MLB’s players, has indicated they may boycott Arizona:

To wit:

The Major League Baseball Players Association opposes this law as written. We hope that the law is repealed or modified promptly. If the current law goes into effect, the MLBPA will consider additional
steps necessary to protect the rights and interests of our members.

“My statement reflects the institutional position of the Union. It was arrived at after consultation with our members and after consideration of their various views on this controversial subject.

And Shakira is definitely not a d-list celebrity.

I just read this:

PHOENIX – Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is expected to announce Monday if he’ll run for Arizona governor. Several sources confirm to the ABC15 Investigators that Arpaio has already made a decision, and will likely run for the office.

I hear ya Sabina. I recently banned(temporarily at least) a regular commentator who a. was only interested in rebuttal and b. lied, as it relates to legal matters, in said rebuttals.
