The Libertarian Korner

no-exit-libertarianism-anarchy-for-rich-peopleIt is with much humor that I offer this post. Over and over and over again, we mujeres at VL get nasty vindictive evil comments that have nothing at all to do with the posts that comments are left on. An example: we write a post about Mexicans Picking Their Boogers, and we get every far right Libertarian in Internetville leaving comments asking about why we don’t write about Jews Picking Their Boogers or The Latino That Raped Five Kittens in La La Land or How Latinos Have A Secret Plan (to do…pick your poison).

The thing is, I live embedded in a community of Libertarians. And I really don’t mind them so much in real life. They stick to themselves and I stick to myself. And we do just fine. I even have several fine conversations with Libertarians that are in the family. In real life, Libertarians are not so scared to carry on a conversation that they don’t dictate the rules to.

So. I offer this thread as a place for all Libertarians (etc) that wish to ask comments or leave commentary about this VL site that seems to bother so many of them. I have a sneaky suspicion that not one Libertarian that seems so intent on “getting answers” will leave a comment here (Real Conversation??? What’s that???), but I don’t care. It’ll be good to have a place to refer Lib’s to when they get uppity on other threads.

If you have the guts, leave a comment Libertarians. I’ll answer you in the spirit that you leave your comment.

Do you have the guts?

I am disappointed to see you repeat the notion that Libertarians, peaceful people who support marriage equality, decriminalization of drugs, freedom of migration, and open access to free markets for poor and rich alike, are “far right.” It is, unfortunately, true, that some right-wing whackos call themselves “Libertarians” but they really are not – kind of like some people who advocate killing all Mexicans who try to cross “illegally” into the US, or killing all gay people, can still call themselves “Christians.” True Libertarians ascribe to the non-aggression principle, and believe all people should have equal rights, regardless of national origin or immigration status (aggressive criminals excepted). You should learn more about libertarianism as a philosophy. ¿Sabe que hay libertarianos vivian en latino america, tambien?

Hey Geno. Thank you for bringing up the main point that bothers me about Libertarianism on the web (and I guess I didn’t make my point very clear that there are the Libertarians I know in real life who seem so normal, even if I disagree with a lot of what they say, and the Libertarians on the web, who are repeatedly jackasses to all of the writers on this blog)–and that is that there is an overpopulation on the web of Libertarians who ARE far right–who DO espouse violence and aggression against Latinos specifically–and they get all the air time, all the commenting time, all the publicity. Where *does* a person find a more middle of the road Libertarian crowd on the internet?

I am not Libertarian and have no desire to be such, so I really have no interest in all at learning more about Libertarianism than I already know–but in the interest of fairness and accuracy, and even reaching out to Libertarian communities, I am more than willing to link to moderate libertarian organizations/media/blogs. If you feel like leaving some suggestions in comments, feel free to and I will check them out.

And I would guess that there are Libertarians in Latin America–but I really wouldn’t know for sure. Libertarianism seems to be such a U.S. philosophy–there really were no “founding fathers” in most Latin American countries–it’s hard to get to a strict constitiutional reading of the law, when the law literally only existed for a few decades or when colonizers and dictators controlled your country for most of it’s existence, you know?

In the spirit, Geno so perfectly described: Here is a link to libertarian discussion forum, which tends to embrace open discussion despite the occasional right-wing trolls trying to take over.

http://www.freesteader.com

The established common denominator there is the mentioned Non-Aggression principle and its far reaching implications, which are constantly subject of discussion, as well as the regular posting and discussion of current events in news and the usual preparedness topics. If you do have questions about anything libertarian, you will find some of the brightest minds libertarianism has to offer on this board, who will be able to give you a definite answer worth considering.
