There are a number of vigils that will be happening this coming weekend across the U.S. and in Puerto Rico demanding justice and in memory of Jorge Steven . I will be at the one in NYC this coming Sunday (local VL’ers hit me up if you want to come with or meet up).

WHAT: Vigil to Remember Gay Teen Jorge Lopez Mercado
WHEN: Friday, November 20th from 6:30 – 7 p.m.
WHERE: Church of St Luke and The Epiphany, 330 S. 13th St., Philadelphia
BACKGROUND: Lopez, a Puerto Rican native, was found partially burned, decapitated and with arms and legs dismembered, on the side of the road near his home town Caguas, Puerto Rico on Saturday, November 14th.
ABOUT THE VIGIL: Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) organizations, activists and allies will attend. The Vigil will include the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus, Gloria Casarez, LGBT Liaison to Mayor Nutter, Cynthia Vasquez, youth activist at the Gay and Lesbian Latino AIDS Education Initiative (GALAEI), and Malcolm Lazin, Executive Director of Equality Forum.
PURPOSE: To Stop the Slaughter and call on US Attorney General Holder to prosecute this horrific crime as the first gay hate crime pursuant to the recently enacted Matthew Shepard Act.
Equality Forum is a national and international GLBT civil rights organization with an educational focus. Equality Forum coordinates GLBT History Month, produces documentary films, undertakes high-impact initiatives, and presents the largest annual national and international GLBT civil rights forum.
