The Story of Angeline Hassell : The Double Victimization of Survivor’s of Domestic Violence

Angeline’s story isn’t new to us here at VivirLatino. Her struggle to assert her mami rights and her struggle against violence perpetuated first by her partner than by the family court system here in NYC is something I’ve posted on before.

Here’s Angeline, in her own words, with her own voice speaking about domestic violence and not from a place of theory but from her own personal experience. Angeline goes back to court here in Queens, NYC on October 19th.

before taking the word of anyone i think we need to know the whole story, both sides, i had the cops called on me and i had charges pressed, but when it came down to court i proved i was the one that was right and i never hit or abused her, i had cameras set up to prove i wasn’t the one that be acting, so before anyone hope on the victim side we need to make sure they really are the victim, hearing one side of the story is just not a good source, suppose he make a you tube video saying he was abused would you believe him, or any man in that case, too many woman today is using the “i am the victim to win the abuse war, and i know for a fact if the courts takes a child from a mother that father gotta have a lot of proof that he is a better chose for that kid then the mother, i won my case because my ex was trying to use me and the system, but one again that’s where paper work, and witness come into play, i even had her own family on my side because when it come down to it, its all about that child safety and welfare.

I used to work for the NYC Domestic violence court system and I am a have been in an abusive relationship. That said, I have witnessed firsthand the way that yes the court system does not work for families, women and men of color. However I am confident about the story of Angeline.
