Lou Dobbs Finally Under Scrutiny After Years of Bigotry

Unless you’ve had your head in the sand for the past couple of days, you’ve heard about the controversy that’s been swirling around our good friend Hispanic journalist Lou Dobbs. It seems after all these years of hate and bigotry, and after years of activist groups like Media Matters going after Dobbs for racist rhetoric, it’s only caught on now that Lou appears to be bought into the whole “birther” movement. Media Matters made the following PSA to warn weaker minds of Dobbs’ agenda:

Tons of mail to CNN demanding Dobbs get pulled from the lineup and suddenly they are nervous…amazing! Hadn’t CNN president John Klein said Dobb’s claims were “legitimate”? It appears he’s since taken that back; in fact, he never believed it, as in a private memo, Klein urged Dobbs to drop the whole thing two weeks ago.

As you can see in the video above, CNN itself doesn’t back Dobb’s loony claims. In fact, the lady you see on the clip — one Kitty Pilgrim — is actually one of the reporters on the Lou Dobbs show and is quite often spouting xenophobic rhetoric. But even Kitty said the story has no basis…though she probably only did that because she was told to.

All of the hullabaloo isn’t surprising to me in and of itself. What is, however, quite eye-opening is the fact that Lou Dobbs and his program have been making “racially charged” and hate-filled statements on a daily basis for the past several years and no one except activist groups and blogs (like VivirLatino) have ever raised a stink about it. No advertisers, no outraged viewers, no nobody. So, number 1: why is this ridiculous “controversy” any more serious than the countless other attacks Dobbs has waged on people of color and number 2: why is it only now that people are holding CNN accountable for this kind of unprofessional “journalism”? Why is it only now that Dobbs represents “a publicity nightmare for CNN“?

Meanwhile, right-wingers are looking to Fox News to recruit Lou should he get the ax at CNN.

Lou deserves to broadcast on a network that respects his point of view. If that network is Fox, so be it. Fox generates an audience two to three times larger than CNN so it would bring Loui’s message to more people.

I have for many years considered Dobbs a very dangerous man. Whether it be the illegal immigration, border security or national security issue, he and his klan have relentlessly stoked fear and hatred. He was untouchable in the Bush era and it’s great something may finally be done about a show that should have gone off the air a long time ago. I had long hoped that his style of ‘reporting’ wouldn’t appeal to a majority of CNN viewers and so it’s heartening to see that his numbers are down. Let him go to Fox where he rightly belongs, alongside the other notable bigots.

Lou Dobbs and all the immigrant bashers are somewhat to blame for our economic demise. Due to their constant placing blame for our economic ills, health, education and loss of jobs..(very much like during the great depression) lets blame the mexicans..and ship them in box cars back (legal or not)..history is repeating itself..

With one exception, we all need to look in the mirror..if the genius’ on Wall Street, Washington DC and the Hague (world bank) Can’t figure out how to fix the worldwide financial crisis, how on earth can they expect us “PEONS” to solve our financial problems, local and otherwise!!

Lou, O’Reilly, Limbaugh, the clowns at Fox and the millions of Mindless Sheep that follow them are just adding fuel to the fire….how about REAL IDEAS AND REAL DEBATE?? oops..I forgot That is hard work and ONLY ILLEGALS DO THE HEAVY LIFTING!! My mistake..

I love these blogs but am frustrated at the fact that all this rhetoric is being seen solely on a blog. I truly hope that the informed writers and passionate articulate individuals responding are talking about this AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Whenever they can because that’s the only way to educate those who don’t know about it.

This is an amazingly important issue right here, right now. We’re in the middle of it. The corporate media giants dispersing absolute garbage to the non-critical thinking population is sad sight to see. That’s why I’m grateful for this and blogs alike. They truly give me a place to go to see that i’m not the only one hoping for justice where we need it the most – The Latin American Community.
