On the state level there are moves on the immigration front. Too bad most of these moves are clearly anti-migrant.
Despite DC orgs bringing hundreds to the Capitol to chant “Si Se Puede” in unision and in a variety of languages while assuring everyone that the first White House postponement of a bipartisan meeting on Comprehensive Immigration Reform was a positive thing because it gave more time to organize, Obama has done it again. He’s indefinitely postponed a meeting that was supposed to be a big push in making immigration reform happen this year.
Originally the meeting was supposed to go down on June 8. Then it was moved to the 17th because of scheduling conflicts. Now that meeting has also been scrapped with no new date scheduled. Beltway orgs and politicians have expressed their disappointment at the delays pero at this point in the struggle, that language is the moral equivalent of shrugging your shoulders and throwing your hands up saying, “Oh well I guess we’ll keep trying”.
The delay is blamed on moves to push healthcare reform, energy reform, and economic reform. El Diario La Prensa points the finger at a legislative push to pump $90 billion to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Clearly the strategy employed to keep immigration reform at the top of the legistlative and executive agendas isn’t working. Soft language pushing workable solutions that reflect “American” values denies the intersection of how war funding furthers imperialism in brown nations using, overwhelmingly, the blood of brown people and the collusion between government and private enterprise in the prison system using brown human fodder.
Activists already know that there always seems to be time and money for exploitation and diversions but real justicia requires something that many at the head of the table seem to be lacking, corazon y rabia.
It’s time to bring it.

The immigrants are the ones to blame! America will not give away paper for people who do not protest. Lets get back to the streets, so they can hear the voice of the voiceless.

[...] While HRC commended the move before it was even officially announced, I say that this is crumbs; a token move to quiet the millions of LGBT supporters who feel let down by what hasn’t been happening with this administration. It’s time for Obama to get his gall up and tackle the two issues we all know he’s afraid of: gay marriage and immigration. [...]
