Obama Says Happy Cinco de Mayo, Gives Props to Mexicans, Pero Doesn’t Say a Thing About Immigration

Cinco De Mayo commemorates Mexican army’s defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It’s not a drinking game, gringos (damn, why I gotta go make everything racial).

President Obama made a statement yesterday about the holiday. In his statement, he speaks bad Spanish, gives props to Mexicans, especially for how they dealt with the whole swine flu thing. Pero me thinks that it was a missed opportunity for President Obama.

The President is playing it ultra-cautious when it comes to immigration reform. Pero would it have killed him to mention the thousands across the country who hit the streets in the name of immigration change? Or how hate crimes against immigrants, Latinos, and Mexicans continue to happen within U.S. borders with impunity? Or how about a broken immigrant detention system that imprisons and kills?

A shot of tequila will not make the reality of the millions of undocumented immigrants go down any smoother today or any day.

wow! instead of finding all the things that are wrong with President Obama’s attempt at solidarity, how about we be thankful for a president who has done more in the last 3 mos. than most presidents do in four years. Last time I checked, fighting 2 wars, fixing the economy, closing gauntanamo bay, passing the stimulus does more than enough to help the average american live a better life, including those whom might be undocumented.

P.S. He my not be perfect at it, but atleast he’s making a concerted effort to speak some spanish. That’s more than most even attempt to do, both citizens (who know no spanish) and immigrants (who know no english)

The thing is Obama’s isn’t called out on these issues then we allow his administration and the public to act like these issues aren’t important to our community when they are. I mean we are talking life and death here.

And anyway I’m against both wars, haven’t seem the economic stimulus help my poor ass, and have seen a growth in my local community of homeless immigrants. And the Spanish speaking doesn’t impress me until he says something substantial in Spanish. Oh and many citizens do speak spanish and immigrants do speak English. All I have to do is look at my own familia to see that.

well if you were doing much better under pres. bush then more power to you. I for one am sticking with the dream team we’ve elected. Oh and by the way, there’s is no way he could ignore the issues most important to u and your community and be re-elected, remember George Bush and every other preseident before him did that. In fact, barack obama has even taken personal responsibility and said that he’ll be a one-termer if he doesn’t solve these difficult issues facing the country. Also, many is not the majority, hip hip horray for your family..but there are many people out there who don’t know a second language and could care less about it (I don’t agree with this stance of course)
