A couple months after saying that he “stinks like Bush”, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is once again striking out against U.S. President Barack Obama. He’s spittin’ mad for comments allegedly made by the U.S. leader and calls Obama “pobre ignorante” (”poor ignoramous”) on his TV show Aló Presidente (video above):
Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez said on Sunday his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama was at best an “ignoramus” for saying the socialist leader exported terrorism and obstructed progress in Latin America.
“He goes and accuses me of exporting terrorism: the least I can say is that he’s a poor ignoramus; he should read and study a little to understand reality,” said Chavez, who heads a group of left-wing Latin American leaders opposed to the U.S. influence in the region.
Did Obama really say this? I can’t seem to find the citation anywhere, and it seems strange to me that someone who said he would sit down with Castro and Chavezand is reaching out to Iran would dare rock the boat with Venezuela, a country with which the U.S. already has a tenuous relationship. Does anyone know if this statement was actually made?
If it is true, it has absolutely zero basis in my eyes. Venezuela export terrorism? You can love or hate Chavez, but that statement is just not factual and wreaks of exaggeration and Republican scare tactics.
See here’s the thing, I wouldn’t call it just a Republican scare tactic. I know that Obama did say something to that effect I will try and find the quote today. The fact is that in terms of what is happening in Mexico with moves to militarize the border and most recently what I just wrote about in terms of Puerto Rico, Obama is indeed just continuing the same old politics as usual when it comes to Latin America.
Obama brought this upon himself. With his naive foolish personal attempts to ingratiate himself with the rest of the world Obama shames America. Obama’s first message as President was a videotaped appeal to al-Jazeera. Then Obama sent a “personal” videotaped appeal to Iran. Everyone but Obama realizes you just can’t reason with some people. Chavez is right about Obama.
Indeed, those moves make what you say sad but true. I was skeptical because, regardless of what his real intentions are with Latin America, it sounded grossly out of character with his public stance of “building bridges”. But it wouldn’t be the first time a politician says one thing and does just the opposite. Highly disappointing to say the least.

As an American, I am happy that our president is engaging leaders/countries not normally spoken to directly by past American presidents.
