26 Feb 2009Ok, yes, it’s a far stretch–a Portuguese water dog is not a “Latino dog” (although I like the sounds of that–Latino dog!), but hell, Portugal colonized enough South American countries, I guess we can make a spot for their damn dogs, yes?
Anyway, here’s a picture of the type of dog breed that the Obama family has decided to adopt:

Sorta an ugly mutt, if I do say so myself. And apparently all the dog people are nervous because these dogs are pretty mischievous and Oh Nos can the Obama fam handle a mischievous dog???
“They’re really good at opening refrigerators and cabinets and, so, thank God the White House has staff to take care of things,” said Janet Boyd, an “Obama fan” from Snohomish, Wash., who owns three Portuguese water dogs and is active in the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America. “I don’t think they’re an easy dog and that’s why I have a little hesitation – and hope for the best.”
Because clearly a family that took well over five months of time to research and decide are going into this commitment with their blinders on, right? /snark.
Anyway, what do VLatin@s think? Can the Obamas handle this dog? Do you think it’s an ugly mutt like I do? Talk, talk!

Oh great, now let’s start talking about “Latino dogs” as if there is such a thing; how about “His panic dogs” or some other stupid thing that has nothing to do with ending all the poverty and oppression most of La Raza is forced to endure under Democrats no less so than Republicans?
This cutesy-poopsy “talk” request is insulting to say the least.

@ D Freitas–yes, I know, I said that in the post–and pointed to a history of colonization as to why portugual is connected to south america.

@ Ruben Botello–please see the *multiple* threads on VL about serious shit like poverty and oppression for more serious discussions. Every once in a while, serious minded folks are allowed to post (in a sarcastic way, I might add, do you really think I’m being serious about Latino dogs?? Jesus), about stupid shit like OMG Teh President totally decided to get a new dawg! hooray!

@ D Freitas, I have not seen the videos–I will look! I don’t care for dogs much, which is why I kinda think they’re ugly old mutts–but I do like to see dogs playing in water, so maybe that will let me see the appeal!

Portugal is Latino. It has been Latino for two thousand years . Latino is the name of the language brought to Iberia by the Roman army. It is a linguistic term, and we have been using that word for the last twenty centuries, long before Latin Americans began to use it in its present form, but you guys, you go on keeping all of us divided. Its worked so well for all of us in the past.

The Portuguese Water Dog makes wonderful pets, and their curly hairs are so handsome. A good choice for the Obama family.
