12 Jan 2009I’m having a full-blown case of the Mondays, exacerbated by the tail-end of a week-long flu. You know those Mucinex commercials? Yeah, that’s me. So music is in order to bring this foul day to a close.
This little ditty always gets me groovin’, and has some special significance for me when I think of VL. We launched back in 2005 and since then have tried, time and time again, to get a male editor on board the VL team. That has never come to be, and here we are today: all girls, all the time. That’s cool though. I appreciate my girls, and here’s a shout out to them, and all our girl regular readers (holla, Kelly!). Enjoy!

12 Jan 2009That’s what gossip blogger Perez Hilton is reporting is on the tongues of Latino democrats: that JLo and old Skelly-Skell are all about getting some spotlight at Obama’s inaugural ball when they never supported the Illinois senator in the first place:
Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez are scheduled to appear at the Latino Inaugural Ball (Obama’s supposed to attend as well) on Sunday, January 18th, two days before the official Inauguration, and some high-profile Latino Dems are NOT pleased. They’re apparently furious because the high-profile couple didn’t support Obama until after he’d won.
One major player called them “vile opportunists for worming themselves into anything Obama related even though they had nothing to do with his win.”
It apparently gets much worse; Perez says that Mr. Skull had even refused to perform at “a ‘crucial’ get-out-the-Latino-vote event in Orlando, Fla., just two weeks before the election”. Funny how becoming president makes folks come out of the woodwork.

12 Jan 2009So if you were like me, you didn’t get to watch the Golden Globes last night because your partners insisted that the new episode of 24 was just too freaking darn important to miss.I resent 24 for being a horrible violent male centered show already–now I resent it for infringing on my awards show outfit gazing time. I hear Salma was a site to behold last night, but don’t know that I can’t find ONE picture of her this morning. Thank god for CNN clips:
Seems like there’s a lot of black this season–a lot of understated looks. I dunno, I kinda prefer the folks who can carry off a bright beautiful flouncy look–even my macha butt could carry off black and understated. It takes special *skill* to carry off bright colorful and flouncy.

As I rode the subway home last night, the cold had brought many homeless underground and around them were perimeters of empty seats because no one wanted to sit near them. As unemployment numbers get higher, as does the number of people requiring assistance to buy food, I was thinking how many would rather have those who struggle to survive and don’t fit into the norms because if their class, race, gender identity, immigration status, disappear. A group of unemployed day laborers have had no choice.
For the last few months, a group of immigrants who lost their jobs and have been unable to find work due to the economic crisis, live on the margins, in improvised caves in Plainfield and North Plainfield. My translation.
I just got finished listening to the last Bush presidential press conference ever (let the celebrations begin!), and all I can do is shake my head. What a mess that man is. One of the most telling lines in the conference was when Bush talked about how “the presidency never leaves you! You can never escape it!..(blah blah blah)..Unless you ride your mountain bike really fast trying to forget” (clearly that’s not an exact quote, but the general gist is there).
This man really hates being president. He really fucking hates it. All those people who said that Bush was a front for Cheney? Never believed it until this conference.
I tried to find a transcript of the conference online–but so far, this video clip of “Bushisms” is the only thing I can find.
It’s sort startling to me–the reporter seems think these -isms are so cute and funny–I find them more than a bit horrifying.
Maybe someday, the press will catch up with the rest of humanity and realize it’s not funny when a president talks about great job done as people drown.

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez has been showered with praise here in comments after he kicked out the Israeli Ambassador. Jordanians were so impressed with his move, that they sent him flowers.
Who else is Chavez looking to expel? U.S. Embassy officials.
