While the message that many are parroting, even in comments here and everywhere in the mainstream media, is that the Israeli assault on the people of Gaza is an act of self-defense. As if a nation who is propped up gracias to the patronage of the United States needs that much defense against hand made rockets from people who right now are burying their children. Explain to me how bombing a United Nation school full of refugee children is an act of self defense and not an act of showing extreme power, of sending the message to the people of Gaza that “We will kill your children”.
The incident in which some 40 Palestinian civilians were killed when Israel Defense Forces mortar shells hit an UNRWA school in the Jabalya refugee camp Tuesday surprised no one who has been following events in Gaza in recent days. Senior officers admit that the IDF has been using enormous firepower.
“For us, being cautious means being aggressive,” explained one. “From the minute we entered, we’ve acted like we’re at war. That creates enormous damage on the ground … I just hope those who have fled the area of Gaza City in which we are operating will describe the shock. Maybe someone there will sober up before it continues.”
President-elect Obama finally said something about what is happening in Gaza. He said that he was “concerned” about civilian casualties in Gaza.
I think the time for concern is long gone.

UN has lost its face and faith today. I don’t know why we need UN?
If at all there should be an UN, then they should have their own military power, secondly the Veto power should be eliminated. US and other major powers are talking about democracy, how we can call democracy when there is veto?

Simple solution. Make Hamas stop using schools, hospitals and civilian neighborhoods as rocket launching placements. Make Hamas stop using women and children as human sheilds as they continue to launch rockets into Israel. Everyone seems to forget that Hamas has been terrorizing the population of Israel ever since they took possession of the Gaza Strip. Israel finally had enough and decided to protect its citizens by attacking Hamas. The total destruction of Hamas is the only way the fighting can be ended. Radical Islamic terrorists understand only two things: kill Israelis or die trying. How many rockets would have to land in your backyard before you would decide to defend yourself and your family? Would it take the 3,000 that Israel recieved before doing what had to be done? I think not.

“…against hand made rockets…” yeah, they are just some fly by the night operations without any major connections, supply shipments and training from outside forces. Would Iran be a better colonizer?

Don’t really get your drift, but hand made rockets and rockets supplied by Iran, along with training, have killed, maimed and destroyed Israelis and their homes. Israel has every right in the world to protect themselves from attacks and from the Islamic terrorist government that is Hamas. If the good Palestinians in the Gaza Strip would rid themselves of Hamas, Israel and Palestine could negotiate a plan for peace. As long as Hamas is in control of the people of Palistine, war will be ongoing forever. Israel has also requested assistance from the U.S. to take out the nuke plants in Iran. If Obama wants to score some major points, he should give the go ahead for such action immediately after taking office. Until the world is 100% Islam organizations like Hamas will not stop their reign of terror. World conquest is their goal and the driving force of their religion.

I agree with Peter Paul. UN is nothing more than a useful tool in the hands of the West. It should be made more democratic. Why should Four Western Powers have the Power of Veto? No Muslim country is a member of the Security Council.
There are no sanctions against the breakers of the International Law; nor any mechanism to enforce these sanctions. Most important of all is the shifting of United Nations to some neutral situatuation. UN ought to have its own armed forces to enforce its decisions.
