You know that when President Bush wears something it is most definitively a fashion don’t. So I declare ponchos worn by lame duck Republican presidents to be not in style.

Seems like Shakira’s hips my not lie pero they still have given her quite a reputation, at least in the eyes of one Egyptian religious leader who said that she is quite the lady of the noche.
An Egyptian cleric assured that (Shakira) “could be a lovely person. Yet beauty is something relative that cannot be found in the butt or legs of a woman, but in her moral values”…
Khaled Al-Gindi said: “it’s like being a prostitute. In this country we respect moral values ahead of the values of a superficial appearance.”
Pero what if you’re hot and have good real moral values? Certainly Shakira has done her fair share of community work with her Pies Descalzos foundation and ALAS.

24 Nov 2008Today I have managed to almost, but not quite, destroy my finger. Long story short, I very cleverly managed to jam the point of my knife into finger and then yank upwards–so I have a lovely cut and some bruising. Since it hurts to type at that moment (I have to keep my hurt finger up in the air, and type with seven fingers instead of eight), I’m gonna keep it light tonight…here’s my very favorite George Lopez skit:

Local elections yesterday in Venezuela didn’t yield the anti-Hugo Chavez sentiment some in the U.S. were hoping for. While the mainstream U.S. media is celebrating the wins of Chavez opponents in the Caracas mayor’s office and three of the most populous states, while playing down pro-Chavez candidates wins.
Pro-Chavez candidates kept gubernatorial posts in 17 states, while the opposition won five states.

President-elect Obama isn’t the only one making questionable choices in his political appointments. Puerto Rico’s Governor-elect Luis Fortuño chose the current assistant director of the FBI in Puerto Rico, José Figueroa Sancha, to head the island’s police force, further blurring the line between P.R.’s ability to govern it’s internal affairs and the reality of it’s status as a U.S. colony.

President-elect Obama has made another cabinet pick, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano to head the always troubled Department of Homeland Security. The decision is being praised left and right because of her experience inside the border state and a “practical” attitude. And while I suppose being practical might be useful in a national government post, it doesn’t bode well for the millions of immigrants hoping that the change line Obama has been feeding people includes them and their families.

Another Latino besides Bill Richardson is being eyed for a cabinet position in the Obama White House.
Bronx Borough President, Adolfo Carrion Jr., is allegedly being considered to be the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Yesterday people took to the streets of Hempstead, Long Island to demand justice for the 37 year old Ecuadorian who was killed last week in a vicious, racist gang assault targeting Latinos.
What Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy refuses to accept is his role in this, in how his initial reaction of Lucero’s death, diminishing it to a one day story , told a million days of truth of what the death of a Latino is worth. One fucking day. Pero the lives of the accused killers? At least a week. In the lives of others in Suffolk county? Years.

21 Nov 2008Never been a big fan of Brad Pitt. I don’t find him attractive (boo hiss on me!) and I think he’s a crappy actor–the only movie I really enjoyed of his was Seven. But I think that after watching this video, I must add extreme puzzlement to how I feel about Brad Pitt. What’s up with the Robert Goulet look? Do women really find that attractive?

From the AP comes the following news about the plans that prospective Homeland Security secretary, Janet Napolitano, plans to make should she get the job:
Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, President-elect Barack Obama’s reported primary choice for Homeland Security secretary, says she still thinks National Guard troops should be sent back to the U.S.-Mexico border.
Napolitano says “as governor of Arizona” that’s something she has advocated with other border state governors and still believes.
Guard troops were deployed for two years to support the Border Patrol as it hired more agents, but the troops left in July.
Napolitano wouldn’t say on Friday if she’s been offered the Homeland Security post. It includes overseeing the Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
And she won’t say whether she’ll seek to redeploy Guard troops to the border if she becomes Homeland Security secretary.
As Man_Eegee says, this isn’t change and it’s nothing I can believe in.
