Black Friday or Buy Nothing Day?

Growing up with a mom who worked in retail, the day after Thanksgiving meant watching my single mom wake up before the sun, before the crazy shoppers, to open up whatever store she worked in at an unholy hour. We never shopped for bargains because it was my mother's job to make sure others could. Even today, as my mom approaches retirement age, she moved her tired body in the dark, towards the city of Manhattan to unlock doors and fill shopping bags. Black Friday gets no love from me.
My sister and I celebrated Buy Nothing Day before it was even officially a day.
With the depressed economy, analysts are talking about less people hitting the stores today since retailers are so desperate for shoppers that low prices will continue long after today, throughout the mad Christmas holiday rush.
Personally I don't have money to spend even after today. So no sale is enough to lure me unless someone is giving something away for free.
Are you shopping today? What were your experiences in the stores? If you are not shopping today, is it because you are working or spending time with familia?

i'm not buying anything because there's nothing to buy. everyone's getting handmade gifts from me this year, whether i buy them from other crafters or make them myself. it makes zero sense for me to put myself through all that madness and nearly lose an eye because somebody just *has* to have a wii or some sneakers. eff that. my sanity is too important. also, i hate large meaningless crowds. these folks are shopping mostly out of compulsion. i don't play those types of games. either you need something, or you don't. take your butt home and make sure your light bill's gonna get paid. sheesh.

Who still has money to shop? If I did have money to throw I wouldn't spend it on Black Friday.
Our family tradition has been to spend the Friday after thanksgiving together talking, playing board games, eating leftovers and taking walks in the neighborhood. That is how it has always been and always will be.

I've never done the black friday thing, we couldn't afford it anyhow, and the craze of the stores is somethings I avoid on regular shopping days. The only people I ever give gifts to is my kids and my mom. This year they're getting books, the gift that keeps on giving.

Buy Nothing Day!!!!!
I also deemed Black Friday as the day that I spend nothing. From the news of the aftermath of this hectic shopping day, there is more of a chance I'll die from a stampede than from winning the lottery.
