NYC Represents Against Prop. 8

I was on my way to visit my titi in the hospital last night with my hijas, when I stumbled into a beautiful diverse display of righteous anger and strong love.

In a rally that was organized fast via social networking sites like Facebook, anywhere between 5,000 t0 16,000 people (depending on who you ask) hit the streets around Colombus Circle, Manhattan to protest Proposition 8′s passing in California.

What struck me the most, besides the large numbers of people (and thankfully a very standoffish NYPD), was who was representing at the protest. Our own la Macha has written on how the mainstream white Gay community as exemplified by Dan Savage, are pointing fingers at people of color, specifically the African American and Latino community in Cali. Pero what I saw last night was the argument against that divide and conquer tactic. What I saw and witnessed and already knew from my own personal and political experiences is that the Latino and black community are the gay community and vice-versa.

La Ms. Brownfemipower also has some powerful food for thought
about how the aftermath of Prop. 8 calls into questions about just who is accountable to who and the erasing of whole sections of the population and levels of struggle.
