Rosie Perez is still awesome

Of course this video is a day late and a dollar short–but I wanted to post it anyway because 1. It’s got good facts in it and 2. I didn’t realize Rosie Perez was still so awesome. The last I had heard, she was regulated to Click the Camera on Diego and other D-list jobs because gawd forbid anybody in Hollywood dare to have an accent.

Update on Prop 8

queer%20love.jpgJennifer told us earlier about Proposition 8 in California passing. Well, as I’ve been surfing around looking for updates, I found information on other anti-gay ballot measures that have also passed in Florida and Arizona–and it’s not surprise in this Macha’s mind that those measures passed with alarming ease.

Y Ahora Que? Plan the Obama Cabinet!

081105_obamarahm_allen.jpgSo who will be in President Obama’s cabinet and will there be any Latinos in there?

Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) apparently just accepted to be Obama’s Chief of Staff.

Emanuel, who at 49 is two years older than Obama, is the Democratic Caucus chairman, the fourth-highest-ranking member of the House Democratic leadership.

Emanuel was known for his hard-nosed tactics as a senior adviser to President Bill Clinton. After leaving the White House, he returned to Chicago as an investment bank managing director.

Bill Richardson’s name is being tossed around to possibly be Secretary of State.

Anyone you think should be on the Obama cabinet?

Michigan became the thirteenth state to legalize the physician supervised possession and use of cannabis. According to early returns, more than 60 percent of Michigan voters decided in favor of Proposal 1, which establishes a state-regulated system regarding the use and cultivation of medical marijuana by qualified patients…

Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, some 65 percent of voters (and virtually every town) decided “yes” on Question 2, which reduces minor marijuana possession to a fine-only offense…

Question 2 is expected to become law in 30 days — making Massachusetts the thirteenth state to decriminalize the personal possession and use of cannabis.

Obama’s acceptance speech last night felt like a remix of so many of his other speeches pero that’s not a bad thing.

Text of speech after the jump.

I didn’t like his speech at all. Many are touting John McCain’s concession speech as the speech of his life pero to me it sounded like he was claiming the Obama victory as the end of racism. I also was disgusted at the poor sportsmanship of the McCain support crowd who yelled things that I thankfully couldn’t make out and booed whenever Obama’s name was mentioned.

image001-245x300.jpgI woke up this morning wondering if it was all a dream. Pero it’s not. Barack Obama is the next U.S. president.

Looks like the final electoral vote count is Obama: 364 to
McCain: 173. News sources, including CNN and NBC say that 66 percent of the Latino vote went to Obama.
And yes we can, celebrate this victory for what it is and it’s historic place. Kevin over at A Slant Truth reminds us that:

When Barack Obama was born, his parent’s marriage was illegal in many states.

50 years ago, Barack Obama wouldn’t have been able to drink from the same water fountain as John McCain, or eat in the same restaurant. He would have had to give up his seat on the bus and move to the back.

now_its_up_to_you.jpgIt’s 11 a.m. in Barcelona, and 2 a.m. in San Francisco, my home city. And after waking up to the news of the Obama win, celebrating it with people here, feeling overjoyed at the fact that 8 years of Republican reign is finally over and the impact that will have on the world, and that a person of color is in the White House…I got a sinking feeling. I climbed down off my cloud and back to reality to have a look at the voting returns on California’s Proposition 8.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Prop 8, it is a state ballot measure which would amend the California constitution to limit marriage to unions between a man and a woman, effectively making gay marriage illegal. You might remember that a few months back the California Supreme Court ruled that denying same-sex couples the right to marry was unconstitutional. Marriages followed, among them that of TV star Ellen DeGeneres and her partner actress Portia De Rossi.

With 80% of precincts reporting, it looks like my fellow Californians have spoken, and their words are not what I expected. Prop 8 is winning by 4 percent, and the trend is likely to remain the same once all the votes are counted.
