While in English language debates, Obama will not mention the word immigration, his campaign has no problem dropping the word in Spanish language ads (apparently English speaking Latinos don’t care or aren’t interested in immigration?).

The following Spanish-language ad starts to air today in Colorado.

The More Things Change…

While I was looking for the Dana Carvey video below, I came across this video from the 92 debates with George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton.

It’s interesting to me that apparently we were in the middle of an economic crisis back then too! And that people are asking great questions in the town hall format that the politicians are doing their best to totally screw up the answer to (Just cuz I’m rich doesn’t mean I don’t touch you people occasionally–ai, dios mio! No wonder he lost!) or perform their way out of answering (Bill was literally salivating on his way to talking to that woman).

The only difference is that a third party candidate is at the debate–but of course the people who edited this video seem to think we don’t really want to hear what Perot had to say, so in a way, we’re really in the same position.

I looked all over for Perot’s answer and couldn’t find it, if somebody has a link, leave it in comments!

Where are the Libertarians/Greens in these debates?

Far be it from me to rain on the Obama/McCain parade, but I have been wondering what on earth happened to debate broadcasts that include the perspective of *all* candidates running for office, not just the two that the Mainstream Media like the best. Am I the only one that remembers the delish debates in the 90s with Ross Perot?

ice.jpgTwo debates have come and gone without so much as a breath of the word immigration. It’s too easy to dismiss the issue by saying that it’s not important as the stock market continues to freefall and war in Iraq rages on. It’s too easy to say it’s not happening and the campaigns utter another i word: ignore. Pero it is relevant. It is happening. Yesterday ICE swooped down into a South Carolina chicken processing plant and changed the lives of 300 families.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin McDonald says the raid began shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday during a shift change at House of Raeford’s Columbia Farms plant.

Federal prosecutors and immigration agents have been investigating the plant’s hiring practices. McDonald says 12 people have been arrested in past months, and seven have pleaded guilty.

Pero, don’t anyone dare talk about it. After all what’s the value of 300 immigrant lives?

Presidential Debate Hangover 3: That One

One the biggest wtf moments of the debate last night between John McCain and Barack Obama, when instead of referring to Obama by his name, McCain called him “that one”.

Many are making a big deal about the scene played below, where John McCain rejected Obama’s hand and indicated he should shake Cindy McCain’s hand instead.

There was a point in the debate, I believe in the beginning, where the two candidates did shake hands. Pero you don’t expect McCain to touch “that one” twice do you?
