6 Oct 2008My favorite show right now is the Sarah Connor Chronicles. It’s a bit odd, really, that I do like this show so much because I love Linda Hamilton in the role of Sarah and I think that Lena Heady (who plays her on the series) is just not crazy tough enough. The original Sarah was so cool because she would kill you just as soon as look at you. She jammed a syringe filled with cleaning fluid into a dudes throat, for heaven’s sake. The series Sarah–she’s inclined to give a lot of meaningful looks and is just too good of a mother to be believable.
But it’s a compelling series regardless, and it makes me wonder–how many out in VLatino land are sci-fi geeks like I am? Will you be watching the new show tonight?
Here’s a catcher-upper if you haven’t been watching, get hooked!

So, either the common people are so unused to a Spanish accent or so unused to Lebanese as a reference point, that when a Mexican born woman of Lebanese descent speaks, she must be outing her queer self.
ITV talk show presenter Eamon Holmes made a gaffe while the actress was present to discuss her campaign to wipe out Tetanus, reports The Sun.
Holmes asked Salma, Hayek doesn’t sound very Mexican”. To which the actress replied that’s because she’s half Lebanese.
He didn’t understand what she said and mistakenly asked: “You’re a lesbian?”
Salma clarified that she was a Lebanese.
Eamon asked her to forgive him and admitted he’d thought she’d said she was “half lesbian”.
You know what is really amusing to me? That even though this dude is talking to a woman with such a thick accent he can’t understand her, he still has the audacity to question her Mexican identity! It’s so much fun to be mestiz@ some times.

There are way too many adults in the country who would rather ignore or play pretend when it comes to the role of race in electoral politics. Children, however are not playing pretend. A study released yesterday suggests that:
Children are aware white males have monopolized the US presidency, and most attribute the trend to racial prejudice.
Wait, so children (and not just my own) get white male privilege something so many adults still refuse to acknowledge plays any role in anything? Well, not exactly.
The research team interviewed 205 children aged five to ten in 2006, a year before Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama began their historic bids for the White House. Clinton lost to Obama in the primary fight for the Democratic nomination.
The study asked the children, from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, about their knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about the US presidency, and specifically about similarities between presidents and the absence of female, African-American and Hispanic presidents.
A third of the children said the white male monopoly was due to “racial and gender bias,” and another third believed members of the excluded groups “lacked the skills to hold the position,” according to the study.
One in four participants told researchers they thought it was “illegal for women and minorities to hold the office of president.”

ICE and the media can try and sell the story that the raid on the home of a 68 year old Latina woman was a mistake. Pero there are no mistakes in this age of war and terror. Perhaps its the cynic in me or the history I carry inside me that thinks this was more than a a mere clerical error.
Olga Savage said she went through a harrowing life-changing experience that might have been a total mistake. The 68-year-old woman told Action 4 News that she heard a knock at her door Tuesday morning. But before she had a chance to get up she said U.S. Immigration & Customers Enforcement (ICE) agents were inside her home. “They came in with guns, grenades and holding their pistols,” Savage recalled. When she asked them why they came into her home they allegedly responded, “Show us your papers.” Savage complied by showing them documentation proving that she’s been a United States citizen for 40 years. She said they were shocked to see the paperwork. “They looked confused and said, ‘They told us you didn’t have your papers’,” she recalled. After verifying her documentation, they made copies and left. Olga said they didn’t offer an apology or help. But the experience left her in bad shape. Savage told Action 4 News that she had to drive herself to the local clinic since her blood pressure rose to 280. “I told the doctor don’t let me die because I had a really bad pain,” she said. Savage said she wants to know why federal agents kicked in her door like she was a criminal, if she’s been a citizen for so many years. “Why, why did they have to come like they were going to war, if I’m a women living on my own,” Savage asked. Action 4 News spoke with ICE spokeswoman Nina Pruneda about the incident. Pruneda said ICE agents would never raid someone’s home and adds that the whole confusion started because Olga savage has two alien registration numbers. One number states that she is a U.S. Citizen and the other states that she is a fugitive. Pruneda said ICE will continue looking into this issue.

6 Oct 2008I think the best part was the making fun of both candidates’ position on gay marriage. Gosh darnit.
