3 Oct 2008If we were to make a list of the issues raised in last night’s Vice Presidential debate we would have:
health care
taxes
bailout
Iraq
Iran
Pakistan
Energy
gay marriage
Hmm what’s missing? Only the stories of countless people. Only what is whispered in the barrios: the fear, the constant watching of your back. What’s the word? Oh yeah, immigration.
It’s not as if there wasn’t another ICE raid. It’s not as if the NRA is trying to lure Latino voters away from Obama by saying that thanks to Obama they can’t shoot undocumented immigrants. No I didn’t make that up.
Si, we are seeing advocating not just separating families and shooting immigrants pero immigration was a word not uttered, not referenced, not alluded to. It is a reality people are living and the politicos dream “those people” will just go away.

thanks for reminding us about this. I remember being struck by how cavalierly they dismissed gay marriage and how long Palin spent on “tolerating” and then thinking: hey wait, that was the only diversity question of the night.
It’s like someone told both camps that immigration would sink them so no one is talking. Does anyone know if the green party has said anything?
