The rumors of NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s decision to run for a third term and attempt to change a term limit law in the process, are being analyzed by many mainstream media sources as a sign of the need and desire to have a familiar face guide the city through the current economic crisis.
After all, Bloomy is not just a politician, he’s an economic insider, a former Wall Street trader and the man behind the business information company that has his name. Pero what short term memory people have.
Remember the praise Giuliani got post 9-11-01? How well he handled the crisis? So we face a “new” threat and we need more of the same?
just like I, a born and bred NYC chica didn’t understand the effusive praise given to Giuliani post 9-11-01 (um wasn’t it his job?), I don’t get the perception that a business man, who probably could be blamed in some small way (or big way) to the capitalist nightmare coming to life, is gonna save our city.
Mitchell Moss, a New York University professor who has served as an adviser to Mr. Bloomberg, noted that unlike Mr. Giuliani, Mr. Bloomberg likely won’t ask to remain in office beyond his term, only to be allowed to run again. Mr. Bloomberg apparently doesn’t plan to ask voters to change the term-limit law. Instead, he will ask the city council to extend the city’s term limit for all offices to 12 years from eight.
So that way, it’s not just about him. See how much he cares?
Pero just as the ashes of the WTC still burned and caused holes to burn through people’s heads and forget the police state that Giuliani had created in NYC, especially for people of color, people forget that
Bloomberg is running the city like a business, especially the Department of Education, that is so focused on numbers, that it forgets that children are humans not just test scores.
And just look how well the business sector did with numbers.
