Wanna scare ‘mericans into voting McCain? Easy. Create a new brown menace to go with Ahmadinejad. As we saw in the debate last week, all it takes is saying Ahmadinejad, Castro, Chavez in one breath.
“In Venezuela we are interested in development of nuclear energy, of course for peaceful purposes, for medical purposes, for purposes of electricity generation,” Chavez said at a political rally.“Brazil has various nuclear reactors, so does Argentina. We will have ours.”
Chavez noted that Venezuela, which is a member of the oil-producing cartel OPEC, developed a nuclear reactor decades ago but abandoned it under pressure from the United States.
He said Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had offered help with a reactor, adding that “we already have a commission working on this issue.”
I can’t be the only one expecting an invasion of Venezuela, can I?

I think they’ll take down Morales in Bloivia first; some sneaky CIA action will cause him to have an “accident” of sorts (he says that’s why he never married).
Chavez is so visible & charismatic (like him or not, he’s used pr to his power) that attacking him would be risky for the US. It would provoke a reaction among lots of other South American countries, even those who take issue with him, who the US is trying to “build alliances” with. Morales is probably more “threatening” to US “interests” (he’s more revolutionary, just quieter) and he has less powerful allies.
Plus he gets less press here…..

If by charasmatic you mean bungling idiot than I totally agree with your statement about Chavez.
Every country has a right to peaceful nuclear technology so long as they have an open program subject to IAEA inspection.
Issues do arise when alliances are formed of inept leaders, with repressive regimes, who support groups that kill innocent civilians (terrorists), and seek nuclear technology. Pretty bad mix if you ask me.
Chavez’s form of socialism has not improved the plight of any poor Venezuelans (some 60% of pais) even in the presence of huge amounts of oil wealth. I think the murder rate speaks to that very well.
The US gov’t does not assassinate leaders of foreign countries. No matter how much they may deserve it.
