Jesus%20Bracero%202007.jpgImagine you are walking your daughter to school. It's a common scene. The last thing you expect is to be attacked. The last thing you expect is to be attacked by the New York City Police Department. Yet, that's exactly what happened to Jesus Bracero.

In May 2007, 56-year-old Jesus Bracero was attacked in Washington Heights by NYPD officers while dropping his 15-year-old daughter off at school. The catalyst? Bracero not complying immediately when asked for id. This is where people will say to themselves, why did he not just follow the police order? The answer is simple. In the words of Bracero: “I had not done anything illegal.” This was enough to unleash the NYPD choking and beating him.

They dragged Bracero out of his car with a chokehold on his neck. Bracero says he was assaulted by many police, who handcuffed him and repeatedly banged his head on the ground.

Some witnesses called 911 to report the police attack and yelled for the police to stop.

Later that morning Bracero’s family had gone to the 34th Precinct, where he was being held. They say that when Bracero’s daughter reached out to hug her 56-year-old father, who suffers from a severe back disability, the police told her she was “acting up” and grabbed her. When her mother tried to help her, they threw the mother across the room onto the floor. His son tried to help. He was assaulted and thrown in jail with his father.

Ah yes the irony. We are so well trained to depend on the police to protect us, that we call the police when they are the ones abusing us.

It is also important to note, that while the mainstream media, fed by the NYPD will attack the victims and their characters, they can't have it both ways. They can't talk about the "bravery" of Latinos who are in the U.S. military and then abuse them as well. Well, actually, they can and they do. At the time of the attack the son was in the U.S. military and awaiting deployment to Afghanistan.

Mr. Bracero was offered an ACD (Adjournment Contemplating Dismissal), meaning as long as he is not arrested within a 6 month period the case against him would be dismissed. He refused, saying he did nothing wrong and will fight this to the end. Now over a year later, Bracero finds himself on trial from Mon. Sept. 22nd– Fri. Sept 26st. and the Justice Committee is asking people to represent. The trail takes place in Manhattan Criminal Court 100 Centre Street Part JP13 on the 4th floor.

It's a clear case of failure to comply that ignited the entire chain of events. If you are asked for identification by police, under any circumstance, comply to their request whether you feel it is unjustified or not. Any rational thinking person would know that is the only way to prevent such events as this from happening. In other words, don't resist or act confrontational to police.

Right so the fact that the NYPD cannot control itself is the fault of the victim here? I love this analysis.

I wonder why you even read here when you don't agree with anything we write. Thanks for the traffic??

Yes, obey & submit. That is the way, "the American freedom" we claim to fight for. Anyone who's not terrified deserves to be bullied. *puke*
