The Many Rumors of Sarah Palin
11:58 H | Topics: US Presidential Race 2008
I've learned to take rumors for what they are...often not true, often partially true, often completly true. Sarah Palin has had a huge amount of rumors swirling about her since she announced her candidacy, one of the biggest being that her daughter gave birth to Trig (the youngest child you've probably seen in the arms of the older children) and Palin was passing it off as her own. I, frankly, thought that this particular rumor was completly out there untrue, until the Palin camp released a statement saying her daughter was really preggers.
The latest rumor floating about is that Palin had some not so savory words to say about Obama beating Clinton: So Sambo beat the bitch!
This rumor floats pretty well with the other rumor--that Sarah Palin was not a very nice politician and Alaskan politics are riddled with racism, sexism, vindictive nastiness and uncomfortably close small town relationships.
Now, of course, all the internet is fighting over what to believe, if anything, and what, exactly, constitutes sexism? Is it sexist to report on all these rumors? Is it sexist to not subject Palin to the same smear campaigns that the men are subjected to (think of John Kerry here, or even John McCain, who was also subjected to rumors and innuendo regarding his wife, his children and even his service record)?
And what do we do if we find out that a possible VP said such a thing? Is it worth doing investigating into if this rumor is true or not? What do you think?

I hope the rumors aren't true that she is a racist, of course. If she's around slimey old men and they use slurs when referring to others of different races, then that could just be their ignorant way of speaking. Sort of like Dog the bounty hunter. I don't think he's racist; he's just low-life white trash with cash. LOL!

well, we know that mccain has definitly said some really horrible racist comments (I think he called asian people gooks if I remember correctly, I don't feel like googling right now!) and I think you're right, there's definitly the age/time factor--he grew up in a different time and era so while it's not ok, you can understand how it happens. but I think that whether it's a different time/era/age whatever, when you're running for president, not being blatantly openly racist needs to be priority number one, and it seems that the republican ticket, at least, is having a real problem with that.
I just wonder how many 'silent racists' these rumors will appeal to and make them vote for the mccain/palin ticket....

Bingo, La Macha...I think these "leaks" of racist stuff benefit more than harm the Republicans, because they're like little coded messages to the many racists out there.
So they get the message"Whew, that's how I feel, like I joke with my friends, not that I can say it in this 'oppressive PC' society. Glad she's 'one of us'".
And then the Republicans get to deny it all, say how dirty the Dems are fighting etc etc.
It's a win-win for Republicans here.
