ice.jpgHmm I don’t remember ICE being on the official list of attendees at the RNC. According to a tweet from the Coldsnap Legal Collective, the grassroots legal team in the Twin Cities:

ICE agents are entering jail and pulling out arrestees with “foreign-sounding names!”

Confirmation of this and information is much appreciated. We’ll keep an eye on this gente.

“ICE agents are entering jail and pulling out arrestees with ‘foreign-sounding names!’” This is what really gets me angry. They will be pulling out people with surnames of Rodriguez, Ortiz, Lee, Park, Yamasaki, Patel, etc. But will they being pulling out people with surnames of Smith, Jones, Taylor, or Richardson? I think not. Even if those surnames belong to undocumented immigrants from the UK or Europe. So I would like an explanation from ICE to find out what they consider a “foreign-sounding name,” because the names I just listed are some of the most popular surnames of Britain. And I know there are many undocumented immigrants from the UK living in the US but ICE doesn’t hunt them down like they do Latinos or Asians.
