Media, the DNC, and the Latino Vote : The Criminal, Macho Latino Male and the Hot Blooded Latin Sterotype Mujer

Everyone wants the Latino vote, even if we are all gang bangers and putas, at least according to the mainstream media. Day after day, out hotness and criminality is highlighted, even in so - called political articles covering endorsements and independent media here at the DNC.
I never thought I'd have anything in common with Daddy Yankee, who recently endorsed Republican presidential candidate John McCain. And no, I'm not talking about being Puerto Rican, I'm talking about being stereotyped.
Who Daddy Yankee endorses doesn't change my vote as a Latina, it doesn't impress me, and frankly I could give a shit, but the mainstream English language media, who rightfully focus on the price of gas and not the booty shaking "Gasolina", have shifted their gaze the the reggaetonero and see what is the stereotypical Latino male : violent and oversexed.
From Politico:
There's some amusement today about John McCain's endorsement by the Puerto Rican performer Daddy Yankee, who has an assault charge and some some seriously racy lyrics.
Yes, Puerto Rican men are one or all of three things: amusing, criminal, and racy.
Puerto Rican women don't fare much better. We are misquoted and misrepresented and turned into sexy cartoon characters to consume.
No matter that right now, a flag of Puerto Rico hangs over Larimer Street in Downtown Denver, among U.S. State flags while on the first day of the convention, as hundreds of Latinos in one state are rounded up by ICE, another Puerto Rican independence supporter, now the sixth, has been subpoenaed by the Feds.
The more time I spend here in Denver and in the comedic theater that is the DNC, the more I believe in change and it ain't the change that is being pushed in our face here, covering people's eyes from what's really going down.

I don't know you and I randomly came across this post. I just want to say that as a black woman, if you substituted every latina or puerto rican for black, our communities share the same story. The same outlook, the same heartache and the same strife.
