In what has become sort of a family tradition for three years in a row now, last night my familia headed to Madison Square Garden to see Juntos en Concierto, featuring Aventura, Alejandro Fernandez and Marc Anthony.
See pictures from the concert after the jump….
Aventura opened the show eliciting screams and waving signs saying “Chuleame Romeo”. Aventura’s performance was dripping with sexual innuendo and some straight up graphic sex references (what do you expect with such romantic hits as “Noche de Sexo”). It kind of reminded me of my youthful 20’s and 4 for $40 motels up on 145th but that’s a whole ‘nother blog post.
Alejandro Fernandez brought back a little class and was even sporting some gray, making him look like his papi, Vicente. Dressed in a spiffy suit and later into the tight pants yumminess that is his charro outfit, Alejandro was a little too Luis Miguel in his showmanship , especially in the poppy numbers. But when he sang his tribute to Mexico, the crowd went wild, and men and women alike were screaming along.
We had to wait half an hour from when Alejandro Fernandez finished for Marc Anthony, leading many to speculate if Jennifer Lopez was the culprit, or maybe he was feeding the twins. My friend told me earlier today that Marc and Jennifer are a more functional Bobby and Whitney. When he did come out, the show was well worth it. People were dancing in the aisles and waving Puerto Rican flags. He spoke to a fan’s relative on a cell phone and even went into the audience to take some pictures. His duel with Alejandro Fernandez was amazing. Now, after waiting so long to see him, his performance seemed shorter than the other performers and compared to other performances I have seen of his.
