If you (like many!!) are struggling to make it through all the political rhetoric being thrown about now during the U.S. election cycle, please click over to WOC PhD’s place for a “just the facts” sort of post on the Green Party’s team: Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente. Some of the facts:
* extend access to education to immigrants and low income college students without debt
* insure housing – stop government plans to demolish unused housing and give to developers for “revitalization” instead of recycling/refurbishing homes for low income and homeless use,
* address government policies that encourage gentrification to ensure the preservation of affordable housing and established communities success
* sign the UN Declaration on Indigenous Rights
* support all workers rights to unionize end anti-union policies in industries

To me this is the stupidest idea ever and the worst attempt at trying to play nice and act as if they are compassionate. Immigration and Customs Enforcement aka ICE’s Director announced on Sunday Operation Scheduled Departure.
The announcement of the program by Julie Myers, on Univision’s popular show ‘Al Punto’ con Jorge Ramos, is considered unofficial, as the program which asks undocumented immigrants without prior criminal records to turn themselves in to ICE to be deported, has yet to be announced or mentioned in an official capacity or through any other media outlet.
The benefit to the undocumented? ICE will be nice enough to not put the immigrants in a detention center and will give the immigrants a few weeks to get their affairs in order (like figure out who the leave the children they will be forced to leave with?)
Aww isn’t ICE nice?

31 Jul 2008We love summer in the city. Un verano en Nueva York means lots of free, outdoor concerts and tonight’s concert sponsored by the City Parks Foundation is not to be missed because it features Willie Colon!
While his politics may be dubious, this musical legend is amazing so pack a blanket, some food, y la familia. Hopefully we’ll see you there!

My friends have sung the praises of the interactive game Rock Band, and now one of the hottest Rican rock bands is playing it too!
Multiple Latin Grammy award nominees Circo will be showcasing their musical and gaming talents by playing Xbox LIVE® members in Rock Band(TM) on Thursday, July 31, 2008. If you’re an Xbox LIVE Gold member, and you want a chance to play with Circo, send a friend request to the following Gamertags ( *Circo GWF1, *Circo GWF2) and be online half an hour before (3:30 P.M. ET) the Game with Fame session starts on Thursday, July 31, 4:00 P.M. ET.
Circo’s third album, Cursi, is in stores now and it’s a successful mix of the innovative music the band has become known for. As lead singer José Luis Abreu states, “There are stories here, but the record is pretty danceable and radio-friendly. All our songs are an invitation to dance and to celebrate feelings.”
I don’t have an XBox or Rock Band but this sounds like fun!
Date: July 31st
Time: 4 – 6pm (EST)Game: Rock Band
Gamertags: Circo GWF1 & Circo GWF2 **please note space between Circo and GWF
