I couldn’t fit more peeps into my tiny ass apartment last night. Colombians watching Ingrid Betancourt and everyone watching the final of the Copa Libertadores which seemed to go on and on. Technically, based squarely on goals, Brazilian team Fluminense had more goals than Liga de Quito(3-1). But with the final split in two parts, both teams actually scored the same number of goals over both games(5-5), forcing last night’s match into overtime and then into penalties.
The Ecuas in my house were yelling “chucha la verga!” as the penalties were going down. But props to Jose Cevallos, who made three saves to give Liga de Quito their first Copa Libertadores title in their history. Liga also made history by becoming the first Ecuadorean club to ever win the Copa.
