Ingrid Betancourt and 14 Other FARC Hostages Free

5:19 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Colombia · Comments Off

2 Jul 2008

ingrid200.jpgI just heard/read the news, that Ingrid Betancourt and 14 other hostages held by the FARC in Colombia have been released. Various news agencies are saying that they were “rescued” by the Colombian military without any violence.

I am currently watching CNN en Español, which is showing a helicopter that is allegedly holding Betancourt, three U.S defense contractors, and others. All of them are said to be in good health

Latin American leaders across the world are hailing the actions. Evo Morales already is getting heat for using this opportunity to say that this is a prime time to come to a peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC.

More as information comes in.

Cafe Bustelo CoolNot being able to drink Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee has been making me sweat as a I drink hot Colombian coffee from the bakery across the street. Enter Cafe Bustelo. The Dominican coffee brand recently came out with a new cold beverage called Bustelo Cool. I asked for a sample. Bustelo sent me a whole case.
“This better be good,” I worried aloud, if not I’d be stuck. This morning, after a full night’s chilling in the nevera, I opened a can of Bustelo Cool.

Miercoles Musica : Invincible – Shapeshifters

8:00 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Activism|Detriot|Music|Women · Comments Off

2 Jul 2008

invinc_dont_exist.jpgI’ve only started to deconstruct my trip, a week and a half ago, to the Detroit, to the Allied Media Conference. My girl BeanQueen hooked me up with a CD by an amazing local emcee, Invincible that I just got a chance to listen to. Invincible’s CD, Shapeshifters, is her first full length cd featuring 13 tracks, plus a bonus and a video/documentary. If you miss hip hop’s roots as a voice for social change and a reflection of what is really going down in our communities, Invincible is the answer. And don’t think that music with a message loses it’s edge. Shapeshifters is some damn good music with some damn good beats and Invincible tiene mucho flow.
Check it out:
