Fair Weather Latina Jessica Alba Gives Birth: Other Latina Moms Ignored

I'm telling you, the only time the media cares about Latinas having babies is when: 1. There is a fear of us having too many (especially if we are undocumented) and 2. If the Latina is famous.

Case in point fair weather Latina, Jessica Alba. Apparently she gave birth this weekend to a healthy baby girl, named Honor Marie Warren.

And here I was hoping the baby would be named Maria, Carmen, or Guadalupe.

Congrats to the familia.

But these are the mamis we need to be thinking about

Don't read some of the comments beneath the Reuters link. They range from the commodification of the mother and child, to criticizing the woman for putting her child's life in danger and saying she should be arrested for child abuse (with no acknowledgement that the woman likely had any choice), to calling the woman a terrorist ans saying she should be beaten.

In this world, millions are paid for pictures of the babies of the wealthy while in other parts of the world, millions of babies and mothers are suffering. It boggles my mind, and breaks my heart at the same time.
