Spanish news media is reporting that the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia) was planning to set off a bomb in Madrid, Spain, but the organization's number 2 man, Raul Reyes, died before the plan was carried out:
Colombian authorities revealed on Tuesday that an email had been found on the computer of fallen rebel leader Raul Reyes, in which the top FARC leader, Alfonso Cano, suggested that they "should plan a project" to carry out an attack in Madrid.According to Spain's 20 Minutos, in another email found on the computer, Cano states that the death of 11 politicians from the Colombian state of Valle del Cauca last June was "a mistake". Apparently the FARC guards mistook them for a guerrilla from the ELN (Ejército de Liberación Nacional). The email has intelligence organizations worried, because according to the initial analysis, FARC as planning to carry out attacks against prominent Colombian personalities in the Spanish capital. "I propose that you create a project that will get the comrades ready for the attack in Madrid," says the message that Cano sent to the head of the FARC.
