Seems famous people paying for sex is the media story of the moment, with the men involved being made the center of the story and the women/sex workers involved being pushed further into the margins at best, demonized at worst. The latest is futbol player Ronaldo being the latest, claiming that three transwomen are extorting him.
The 2002 World Cup winner picked up three prostitutes.
When they all booked into a motel, the AC Milan striker discovered that the prostitutes were in fact men.
According to Rio police, he alleges that the transvestites then tried to extort money from him.
Excuse me for not feeling sorry for Ronaldo. While it certainly is possible that he didn't know that the three women were trans, and that they stole his documents and demanded money, as Ronaldo told Rio Police. But there are also allegations that Ronaldo threatened the women he picked up.
It is important to note that in Brazil prostitution itself is not illegal, running brothels and "pimping" is. It is also important to note risks that sex workers in general are exposed to and how often the law fails to protect the right of sex workers, especially if the women are transsexuals. Have there been charges filed against Ronaldo for threatening at least one of the women involved? Seems like law enforcement is taking the futbolista's side in all of this.
Ronaldo "reported that Andreia had taken his car documents and demanded $30,000 [£15,000]", said Rio police superintendent Carlos Augusto Nogueira.
Albertino is accused of taking the footballer's documents
He added: "Ronaldo admits the facts. He said he just wanted to amuse himself, that's not a crime. To pay to have sexual relations isn't illegal.
"There's a strong chance that Ronaldo has been the victim of extortion."
