Mother of Rican Soldier Killed in Iraq : My Son is Puerto Rican, Not American
07:17 H | Topics: Iraq War - Puerto Rico
Those are the words of a grieving Puerto Rican mother at her son's funeral, as she pulls the U.S. flag off her son's coffin, and replaces it with a Puerto Rican flag. Part of this report includes looking at how the U.S. military targets young island Puerto Ricans for recruitment, despite the fact that they cannot vote for a president who can end this war. Are young people of color the canon fodder for this war?

There is no military draft. The people are given a choice, join or not. They are being given recruitment information, but the final decision is that of the individual. Militay service offers many opportunities that can benefit a person for the rest of their lives. Those who join, American or not, should be proud of their service and honored by all American citizens.

That's like a guy from Dallas saying he is a Texan not an American. It's just semantics. I'm also a puerto rican soldier, american soldier, brown soldier, whatever, I'm a soldier. If I get killed let my mother call me whatever she wants. That soldier died for what he believed in, and part of that belief is that people can say whatever they want even his grieving mother. Adios, or Good bye or See ya or whatever.
