Venezuela Does It’s Part Against Ilegal Drug Trade

_44526030_colomb_venez_map226.gifVenezuela has long been criticized by the U.S. government for not doing enough against the illegal drug trade within it’s borders. Its’ not clear if the recent anti-drug campaign within Venezuela is a reaction to this criticism or part of a longer strategy.

Venezuelan authorities have launched a new operation against the illegal drugs trade by bombing secret airstrips in remote parts of the country.
The first runway to be destroyed was 15km (nine miles) from the Colombian border in the state of Apure.

obama.jpgPro-Barack Obama Latinos (which according the the media, don’t exist) are gearing up for a whole week of fundraising geared towards the Latino community.

On the week of April 13th, Latinos across the country are planning low dollar fundraisers nationwide to support the candidacy of Senator Barack Obama. During this”Semana Latina”, Latinos nation-wide will say in one collective voice – Sí se puede por Obama.

One can assume that this new push is in part thanks to Frank Sánchez, who was was named national chair of Latino and Hispanic fundraising for the Obama campaign.Interestingly enough, Sanchez can be seen as a Clinton defector, since he was a Clinton Administration Assistant Secretary of Transportation.

club.jpgThe number of clubs and restaurants in my hood is astounding. Little holes in the wall where many in my immigrant community seek refuge in after a day/night of hard work. So the implications of recent ICE activities in Dallas, Texas are huge if you take a wider perspective.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with, the Dallas County District Attorney, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Dallas Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas in Dallas raided bars, clubs, restaurants, supermarkets and pool halls in an attempt to crack down on security companies that hire undocumented immigrants as security guards.
A total of 49 undocumented immigrants who worked as security guards were reported arrested.
