You just watched Israel "Cachao" Lopez, called the father of the mambo, passed this past Saturday in his home in Coral Gables, Florida. If you have ever seen this maestro perform live, you know the energy, el sentido y el sentimiento, that he brought to Cuban music in particular and music in general.

While he won't be here playing, he has left a rich legacy of music that all should familiarize themselves with. For a taste check out his MySpace (yes even Cachao has a MySpace).
