Hate Crimes Against Latinos Up

immigrationnsm.jpgI’ve said it once and I will say it a thousand times, the anti-immigrant rhetoric translates into anti-Latino rhetoric and actions and if you don’t believe me then believe a report put out by the Southern Poverty Law Center. They released a report titled “The Year in Hate” citing that 819 people were targets of anti-Latino crime in 2006, compared with 595 in 2003.

“If it were merely the groups in a corner by themselves it wouldn’t be worrying,” [Mark]Potok said. “But now the propaganda is being circulated by the mainstream media.”
Potok said conspiracy theories by the groups have been picked up and given validation by CNN and some national politicians.
Among the worst offenders, Potok said, are CNN’s Lou Dobbs and Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa).

And the sad reality is that the FBI’s number is likely lower than the real numbers for two reasons. One, many hate crimes are never reported out of fear. Two, to get a hate crime classified as a hate crime, each state has it’s own standards that are variable and often very stringent. For example most of the time even if there are 10 white guys beating a Latino to death, one of those white guys will have to have been heard using the word “spic” or the like in order for the crime to be labeled a hate crime.

When was the last time you ever heard of a violent attack on a white person being labeled as a hate crime? Can’t recall, right? It seems that hate crimes can only be perpetrated against ethnic minorities, which in my view is a blatant double standard. Point in case, the six black students that beat a white kid in Louisianna a few months ago. No hate crime convictions were made even though the attack was racially motivated. The incident was written off as a school yard scuffle. I say again, very much double standards.

I know you are not talking about Jena because if you wanna talk about racial double standards.Anyway, maybe you should sit down and think of the issues of race and power and then turn on your news because I can guarantee you that you will see a story about a person of color committing a crime. That should make you feel better.

Didn’t want to reply to my question of why a blatant racially motivated attack on a white person is never classified as a hate crime? Is it only minorities that are protected under hate crime laws? Yes, I was referring to the Jena incident when six blacks jumped a white kid, beat him to the point of having to be hospitalized over an incident the white kid had nothing to do with. Laws are passed to protect all people, yet some seem specifically designed to favor certain groups of people. That is still double standards any way you want to look at it. Whites should also be protected against hate crimes, yet it appears no one can come up with a case where the hate crime law applied.

Actually, you’re wrong. White people are victims of hate crimes to the tune of about 800-1100 incidents per year. Also, you might also consider that of all racially motivated crimes, over 90% are perpetrated by white people statistically. If you don’t want white people to be charged with hate crimes, tell them to stop committing crimes based on race.

Police only wants my husband’s statement about hatecrime actions against me from next door neighbors. Been e-mailing him about stolking, calling, and house vandalism. They won’t accept my statement. I am the victim, not my husband.
My civil rights and my human rights have been violated.

answer the ? yourself..you’re white. A majority of hate-crimes are committed BY whites UPON ethnic people and sometimes even their own if they know them to have befriended a “minority” or “immigrant”(legal & illegal). stop spewing off those fictional beliefs of yours and come with a source-what links can u provide & who said the kid had nothing to do with what happened to those black teens? u seem to forget what had already been done to THEM…noose incidents that were casually ignored by authorities and school personnel…the slaps on the wrists they received as if condoning their racist motives. Ignorance isn’t born within, peons create and flourish in it.

Maybe as a whole whites commit more hate crimes. But as a percentage this is not the case. Minorities commit more hate crimes than whites. It time that whites stand up and take our country back.
