Alejandro Sanz, the Spanish pop star and outspoken critic of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, is receiving the support of several Latino superstars in his quest to “tell it like it is” about the South American leader. Sanz has released a letter of protest against Chavez’s banning of his upcoming concert in Caracas, and the undersigned supporters reads like a who’s-who of music, sports, movies and TV: Penelope Cruz, Jennifer López, Ricky Martin, David Beckham, and even…Shakira. In addition to all the entertainment luminaries, the Grammy’s Board of Directors also signed the letter. I guess Alejandro’s still got some major star power!
In a letter sent to Spain’s El Pais newspaper, Sanz thanks all that have supported him and ends it by saying: “For them and for all Venezuelans who have felt alone, my signature and my gratitude to all of you.”
