Super Tuesday Latino Vote Stereotype Time : We Vote to get Something for Nothing

10:25 H | Topics: Media - Politics - Race - US Presidential Race 2008

Oh those crazy white Fox News ladies and their stereotypes.

February 4 edition of Fox News' America's Pulse, host E.D. Hill asked Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo, host of Univision's Piolín por la Mañana: "Do you think that the majority of Latino listeners that you hear from are going to vote for the person who basically is going to give them the most for, you know, for the least? Who's gonna, you know, open up the borders, who's going to give everybody automatic citizenship, that sort of thing? Or are they voting on other issues? On taxes, on health care, on those sort of things?" Hill offered no indication as to which candidate would "open up the borders" and "give everybody automatic citizenship," nor did she offer any support for her suggestion that Latino voters want to "open up the borders."

Yes, E.D., all Latinos who can vote and do vote still want a handout. We will vote for a candidate who will give us all welfare from the time we are born so we don't have to work.

Is she effing nuts? Oh not she's from Fox news. Claro Piolin did a good job explaining that we vote on other issues as well, like education and health care and the war.

Not to mention the fact that I have yet to meet an immigrant Latino who doesn't work his or her ass off trying to get a very little slice of the American dream.

"Oh those crazy white Fox News ladies and their stereotypes."

Speaking of stereotypes; do you think that there's a different name that can be used to distinguish them from all of the white Latinos, many of whom are nice, intelligent, urbane people who are dealing with the same issues as Latinos of various races and backgrounds?
I'd rather distinguish them from us by something like say, anglo, than by color. I'm totally behind you on the fact that we Latinos, especially in media, pretend that black Latinos don't exist.
Making white a pejorative puts a multitude of white Latinos in the same category as the people who we're seeing as our adversaries.
I guess I want Latino to include all of the people who identify as one, without a negative label. I keep thinking of the reconciliation model that Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu are using in South Africa to heal a deeply wounded country and people. Inclusiveness will make us stronger.

Oh those crazy black FOX News ladies and their stereotypes. - doesn't sound right, does it?

BTW: Jorge Liderman, a prominent composer and professor in the Bay Area, died tragically two days ago.
Liderman was born in Buenos Aires in 1957, the grandson of European immigrants. White, Jewish and one of us. R.I.P

Well the depends on what you mean by white Latino? Color? European ancestry?

I don't buy into that whole Latino whiteness theory. Latinos are Latinos and we come in all shades. Trust me, when someone looks at a white Latino, they still see spic.

And mira, I'm a pretty white shade of Latina.
