18 Jan 2008Yellow Fever might sound like a disease from 100 years ago, but it is alive and well and causing panic and death in Brazil. At least seven people have died from Yellow Fever this year, and the government is investigating additional cases. Meanwhile, Brazilians in the most affected areas are lining up get vaccinated. The most recent victims say they weren’t vaccinated against the acute viral disease.
The video above, though only available in Portuguese, will give you an idea of the mood in Brazil will this current outbreak, including which geographical areas are most at risk. A recurring theme in the video is “there’s no reason to panic”, but I’m sure people in those regions aren’t very consoled by that message.

Néstor Kirchner, the former president of Argentina now ceding power to his wife Cristina, can’t complain about his time in La Casa Rosada. According to tax records, Mr. Kirchner increased his worth by 160% during his 4-year presidential term, from 1.8 million dollars to 5.6 million dollars, according to Spain’s 20 Minutos.
Not bad at all. Sounds like Néstor’s a good businessman. He certainly helped pull that country out of a nasty recession. Too bad he couldn’t do anything about inflation last year. Can Cristina fix what broke under her hubby?

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Earlier this week Americans for Legal Immigration PAC began a campaign to convince the CNN anchor Lou Dobbs to enter the presidential race if a so-called “pro-amnesty” candidate wins the Republican presidential nomination. Who are the pro-amnesty Republicans? According to ALIPAC, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, and Rudy Giuliani.
After visiting the organizations website, I don’t know if they are scarier or if Lou Dobbs is.
