I’ve got a case of deja vu. Didn’t we post this same news back in 2006? That was when Lost star Michelle Rodriguez got sprung from jail because of L.A. jail overcrowding. Well, it must still be really crowded in there, as Rodriguez served only 17 days of her 180-day sentence.
In case you’re just tuning in, Rodriguez was arrested for drunk driving in April of 2006 (and asked the arresting officer to kill her) and was sentenced to 60 days in jail. She served a couple of days, promising to do community service. She never showed, so was sentenced to the 180-day sentence she was serving until her release yesterday.
Way to deter bad behavior, Los Angeles!

The FARC has released two hostages, Clara Rojas and Consuelo Gonzalez, who were later picked up by helicopters in the Colombian jungle and brought back to Caracas. Above is one of the first pictures of the freed hostages, distributed by AFP, who captured the images from Venezuelan television.
Venezuela’s El Universal reports that U.S. State Department spokesman Tom Casey was quoted as saying that he “celebrates” the freeing of the hostages, but made no mention of Hugo Chavez’s involvement in the process. However, Casey did thank Colombian president Alvaro Uribe.
That is NOT going to go over well at Miraflores.

Is Colombia talking out both sides of its mouth or is the media just not reporting things correctly? On Tuesday, Colombia said that it didn’t want any outside parties involved in hostage negotiations, but an early morning report today indicates that Colombia has authorized a renewed Venezuelan mission to get Consuelo Gonzalez and Clara Rojas.

Bill, we hardly knew ya. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is planning to announce the end of his presidential bid, after finishing fourth in Iowa and New Hampshire. This is according to two anonymous sources quoted all over the media this morning. Speculation includes the fact that Richardson may even just “suspend” his campaign which is sort of like going on a “break” from a relationship, just prolonging the inevitable.
The fact is that despite Richardson’s long resume as a power player in U.S. politics and policy (Congress, President Bill Clinton’s Cabinet, New Mexico, freelance diplomat), he just couldn’t put on a show the way Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama can. Oh yeah and then there’s the tiny little matter of the fact that he’s a Latino.
Richardson didn’t get quite 5 percent in the New Hampshire primary Tuesday and came in with just 2 percent in the Iowa caucus last week.
