stop_killing_journalists.jpgThe journalism profession was a dangerous game in Mexico in 2007, according to a recent report by that country’s National Center for Human Rights. The Center registered 84 cases of aggression against journalists which reportedly “violate basic fundamental rights”. Mexico’s La Jornada reports that among the aggressive acts were

homicides, injuries, kidnapping. The most common [aggressions] being intimidation and threats, including death threats, made by telephone, email or in person. In addition, according to the report, there were terrorist attacks on offices, spying on private residences and at media offices, phone espionage and theft.

La Jornada reports that 2007 was particularly notable in that 3 journalists disappeared and 4 were murdered. The report attributes the increased level of violence to the fact that members of organized crime are now often involved in the incidents, making journalism in Mexico a “high-risk profession”.

Body%2520Drama.jpgMujeres: if your new year’s resolution is to love your body more then come closer. When I was going through puberty, I learned everything I needed to learn about my body from two sources: porn I found in my dad’s drawers and a copy of Our Body, Ourselves stolen from my mom. Let’s be real, most of our mamis didn’t talk to us properly about our bodies and the changes we were going through. Well we’re not our mamis. We tend to be more open with our children but that doesn’t mean that we don’t need a little help. Enter the book Body Drama: Real Girls, Real Bodies, Real Issues, Real Answers by Nancy Redd.

This book is not for the faint, especially those not used to seeing real women and their bodies. And I say bodies I mean every part of our bodies: cellulite, piercings, tats, bellies, rollos, tetas, culos, and vaginas. Yes, vaginas.

rojas.jpgIt seems that the world is closer to figuring out who is the liar in the whole FARC/ Nene Emmanuel fiasco. On Saturday, the FARC admitted that the three year old boy being held by Colombian authorities in Bogota, the capital, is the same boy, known as Emmanuel, that was part of the failed hostage release deal set to take place at the end of December of last year (really just a week ago).

DNA tests indicated a complete match between mitochondria in the blood of the boy – who has been given the name Juan David Gomez – and Ms Rojas’ mother, Attorney General Mario Iguaran said, quoted by the Associated Press news agency.
