Babalawos in Cuba Release Their New Year's Predictions
12:13 H | Topics: Cuba - Religion
If you're like my mother or some of my tias, you don't start your new year's without consulting your local babalawo, commonly known as a Santeria priest (properly known as Lukumi or Regla de Ocha). Yesterday more than 1,000 Lukumi priests gathered in Cuba to release their Letra de Año". Among the predictions include natural catastrophes, and people checking themselves against neurological, stomach, mental, and skin illnesses.
According the the letra, this year is ruled by the deities of Ogun and Yemaya, deities of iron/war and the seas/motherhood (respectively).
People should also be on the look out against forest and house fires, and an increase in robberies and violence (here in NYC the year has already started quite violently).
Children may act up and violence may be used to gain power and squash rights. Sounds like alot of business as usual then.
More people may use alcohol and immigration will be up (sorry anti-immigrant crew).
