Venezuelan Agents Covering Up Kirchner Cash Stopped in US

08:46 H | Topics: Argentina - Controversia - Venezuela

art.guide.wilson.afp.gi.jpgWhat exactly were four Venezuelan agents doing in the U.S? According to the U.S. Justice Department, the four wanted to talk to Miami business man
Guido Alejandro Antonini Wilson so that he wouldn't talk about $800,000 in cash he was carrying from Caracas, Venezuela, to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Confused? Yeah, me too.

The three Venezolanos and one Uruguayo were allegedly working for Hugo Chavez himself (cue the evil villain music). They were here to cover up the fact that those $800,000 dollars were destined for the pockets of the campaign of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, the recently sworn in president of Argentina.

U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta in Miami said: "Today's complaint alleges an effort by the agents of Venezuela to travel to the U.S. for the purpose of coercing our citizens to help conceal the true nature of a growing international scandal."

The man who was carrying the cash, Venezuelan-American Antonini Wilson is not in custody, presumably because he is cooperating with authorities. The four agents, not so lucky because they are in custody for not identifying themselves as foreign agents (how exactly would that have worked? "Hola, somos espies?"). Their bail hearing is set for Monday.

Argentinian officials say they had no idea of what was happening (of course they would say that) and plan to launch an investigation.

Cristina Fernández rebuttal made more sense than the US allegation. The money was confiscated at the airport in BA, and, she went on to say, if Chávez was so interested in moving money to Argentina, it could have been loaded on to one of his airplanes, diplomatic immunity and all.
She smells a gringo rat.
The US government has zero credibility in Latin America, and after 184 years of meddling, it isn't a surprise.
