Alejandro Sanz still hates Chavez

cantante_Alejandro_Sanz_ayer_durante_rueda_prensa_previa_concierto_ofrecera_hoy_Auditorio.jpgBack in October, Spanish pop star Alejandro Sanz was banned from performing in Caracas due to some "despotic" comments he made about President Hugo Chavez. It seems that the relationship between the two isn't shaping up to get much better, as 20 Minutos reports that Sanz recently called Hugo a "dictator" at a Grammy party in Miami:

Alejandro Sanz said, during a party in Miami, that many Venezuelans are "suffering through the dictatorship" of the Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez. Sanz made this comment at a party celebrating his candidacy to a Grammy award.
Alejandro also clarified why he accepted a Venezuelan flag and a "Chavez Sucks" t-shirt at a recent concert in Miami, and later showed them to the audience, saying: "I did what I felt. It wasn't a joke but a criticism."

Somehow I think this isn't going to make getting a gig in Caracas any easier.

So, Chavez is a dictator whose attempt at passing legislation just failed. Uh-huh. Dictators don't allow elections that don't go their way.

Where are the death squads? Where are the reports of the disappeared?

Chavez may be an ass but compared to the real dictators of Latin America who ruled with brutal hands and no elections, Chavez is a pushover.

Thanks, Brad. Hugo Chavez will have changed the fundamental relations of Venezuelan society for the better, with hope and luck, for generations to come - even if he is driven out of power by foreign or ultimately, by his own electorate. Alejandro Sanz, by contrast, will spend the rest of his career promoting whining love songs so that he can drive a better car. Let the revolution proceed without lovesick consumers.
