foro_republicano3.jpgOn to Latin America, everyone in the audience clapped upon mention of the failure of Hugo Chavez’s constitutional reform.
How would you deal with Chavez? Ron Paul was booed when he said that he would talk with Chavez. He said we created the Chavez’s and Castro’s of the world by butting into their affairs. Mitt Romney said that Chavez is no friend of the U.S. but that Chavez isn’t the people of Venezuela and vice-versa. Giuliani agreed with Mitt Romney. Giuliani said that Chavez is acting like a dictator and should be treated as one.

Now on to Cuba, what would Thompson do differently? Make sure that Castro doesn’t survive through 10 U.S. presidencies (did he just support killing Castro without saying it?). Mitt Romney said that Cuba needs to be continue to be isolated. McCain first congratulated Venezuela on rejecting the constitutional reforms. He said that he was supported by many Cuban – American politicians and that the embargo should be maintained.

On to Iraq: Duncan recognized all the Latinos fighting in Iraq and his own son was there three times and said that if the Latino soldiers were asked if they supported the war they would say yes because they know they are going to win. McCain said that the U.S. should stay in Iraq because we’re finally seeing success. He pointed to the fact that he was the only one to criticize Rumsfeld’s strategy.

How long should we stay in Iraq? Ron Paul said that we don’t belong in Iraq because we shouldn’t be butting in the affairs of other nations. He cited how soldiers, many Latinos, are getting their tours renewed.

John McCain responded to a question on health care saying he would give a 5,000 credit to help people choose a doctor that works for them. Giuliani had the craziest logic, that if more people bought their own insurance then the price would go down. He also mentioned something about a credit that I need to read up on. Huckabee mentioned Cuba and Michael Moore and got applauded for that. Romney said that the goal should be to get more people to buy their policies, like Giuliani. Thompson said that the health care market needs to be changed ( I hate the fact that health is a market- how fucked is that!)
