All candidates said that there was no risk in coming to the Univision debate.
Finally, the English only question. McCain said that English should be the official language and that all who come here should learn English and he will help them. Ron Paul said that bashing bilingualism is wrong but the official language should be English.
Next question: What should happen to over 12 million undocumented people in the U.S. Giuliani said that the illegal immigration needs to stop first. He says we need a virtual and a real wall, a national id. Once we do that then people can get their ids, pay their taxes and if they can’t do that then they should get kicked out. Huckabee agreed with Giuliani on the border issue. Undocumented people need to go back to where they came from and begin the legal process, that is go to the back of the line.
Thompson said that legalization can’t be an option for the undocumented people here already because they have broken the law. Now Castro has been mentioned twice. Duncan Hunter said that undocumented people need to return where they came from. McCain said we have to deal with the immigration issue with compassion and love because we are dealing with humans (with all the alien talk it’s easy to forget that).
Romney gets asked on his immigration issues: Did he report undocumented workers that were fired? He said that the issue needed to be dealt with compassion and that he was friends with the landscaper and fired him when he found out that two workers were undocumented.
Thompson gets asked if children of undocumented parents have the right to not be separated from their parents. He didn’t answer the question.
McCain said the family separation issue is the direct result of the gov’s inability to pass immigration reform so that needs to be dealt with first. Romney didn’t answer the question either.
How do we change the anti-Latino sentiment we’re hearing in the current debate: Hunter said that, while indicating the statue of liberty twice, that Latinos are pro-immigration reform., pro-laws, and pro-border control. Giuliani said that mistakes have been made in the immigration debate, but what needs to be done is fix the broken system. Mitt Romney said that dealing with illegal immigration will help stop the racial profiling of legal Latinos. Ron Paul said he’s against a national id. He essentially said that Latinos are being scapegoated because of economic problems. So that once economics are dealt with and the country stops spending money on things it doesn’t need to, then the Latinos won’t be scapegoated.

They should have held the debate in a cow pasture; there was plenty of bull to go around.
The real problem with latter-day democracy is that we only get to chose from a select group of candidates, most of whom we cannot relate to in any way.
They’re the real aliens, because they don’t have an honest clue of what is truly happening to people at all levels of society.
Panama is seriously considering the idea of Chinese being taught in schools. Why? Not because Panameños of Chinese extraction are going to take over, but because a multi-lingual Panameño is going to be able to move around in the international marketplace without stumbling.
Rather then encouraging multilingualism, these dimwits are pandering to the xenophobes.
Previous politicos got traction from xenophobia, and this batch will too.
The people will not be served by these parrots.

ILLEGAL? Worry more about the ILLEGAL (never mind immoral) invasion of & occupation of Iraq, instead of whining about unfortunate people who come to get a better life & work their asses off (with no security), allowing middle-class white prop up their lifestyle artificially cheaply……All “white” people in this country were once “illegal” to the people already here so stop the race-bashing & get off your high horse.
