Nati, a 17 year-old from Cordoba, Argentina, never felt like a boy. In her own words she described her feelings towards gender as being “7 Up trapped in Coke bottle”. But as of this week, Nati is no longer trapped, becoming the first minor in Argentina to have gender reassignment surgery:
The adolescent, totally supported in this decision by her parents, brothers and loved ones, was diagnosed with gender dysphoria (a profound difference between the physical gender and the gender that person feels is their own), and even though she had already received hormone treatment and breast implants, the “essential” part was still missing.
Nati had attempted suicide three times before when local judges denied her the right to surgery because she was a minor. After the surgery issued a new I.D. card reflecting her gender.

This is the year of Juanes. His song Me Enamora is the longest-running #1 Latin song of the year. It’s been on the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Songs Chart for three months. His album, La Vida es un Ratico, has sold a million copies and growing. He was nominated for “International Male Artist of the Year” At Frances’ NRJ Awards. He will perform at The Nobel Peace Prize Concert On December 11th and is currently the cover boy on the just-released issue of People en Español’s first ever all digital special issue.
With a year like that Juanes doesn’t need new year’s resolutions. He needs to just keep on doing what he’s been doing.

Anti-immigrant advocates call them anchor babies, children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants. By law these children are citizens of the U.S. but a group of Arizona citizens wants to change that.
The text of the proposal would ask hospital maternity wards to verify the immigration status of parents of newborns before issuing a birth certificate, which according to my reading of the Constitution, isn’t legal.
Those supporting the proposition have until next July 3 to get the 153,365 signatures they need to get the measure on the ballot.
