Paulina: The new voice of La Oreja de Van Gogh?

paulinaconcierto180.jpgEarlier this week we told you that La Oreja de Van Gogh (the group that makes me want to cut off my own orejas) was losing its vocalist, Amaia Montero, all but disintegrating the sugary sweet pop group. Enter the not-so-sweet, always controversial Paulina Rubio, who according to Mexican chisme show La Oreja (no relation) might become La Oreja’s (the group) new vocalist for their next album:

Due to the fact that Amaia Montero has left La Oreja de Van Gogh, Paulina Rubio could become the new voice of this successful group, although just for one album, according to a member of the Spanish pop band.

Drummer Haritz Garde told Spanish radio program “La Jungla” that the possibility of “la chica dorada” being the voice La Oreja de Van Gogh on their next album is being negotiated.

He said that there are still some “record company issues” to be resolved, but that the Mexican singer “has committed” to the group.

The sad thing is that as much as I am not a fan of PauPau, I’d be much more inclined to give La Oreja a chance with her rather than their original vocalist (pictured at right). As much as I don’t get it, La Oreja (de Van Gogh) is loved all over Latin America (I’d venture to say much more than Paulina), so there must be something I’m missing. La Oreja
reports that a collaboration between Pau and La Oreja (the group) was forthcoming, as a relationship between them already exists. The group’s keyboard player, Xabi San Martín, penned Paulina’s Ni una sola palabra (video). No wonder I want to jump off a bridge when I hear that song!

One can only speculate that Paulina’s transformation from Mexican into Spaniard will be complete if this actually happens. Good for her, she’s been trying so hard for so many years.

Well I’m glad I’m not the only one who found Ms. Montero’s voice annoying….I rarely have felt such a strong reaction to a voice, & I don’t even know why. Her “baby voice” always made me angry & feeling like I’d bitten a fork & running to change the channel (Whereas mi novio loves her singing). Anyways thanks for making me feel less silly on this account! :)
