8 Nov 2007I was really impressed with Alejandra Alberti at the Jet nightclub inside the Mirage last night, having never heard her before. She was an incredible live performer and her family was so cute, cheering the Mexi-Cubana from the sidelines. She’s nominated tonight for Best New Artist. Good luck Alejandra!

As soon as I got off the plane at Las Vegas Mccarran Airport, I ran over to the Mandalay Bay to pick up my press credentials. The beautiful hotel was filled with fans lining up to see their favorite Latin artists in town for tonight’s Latin Grammy Awards. From there I took a quick walk through the South Strip hotels, to check into my own. Maybe because it was a weeknight, but the strip wasn’t as crowded as I expected it to be. After a quick costume change, it was off to the BMI official pre-party. More on that later. For now check out some strip pictures after the jump.

The protests around the constitutional reform that would make Hugo Chavez president “por vida” just got ugly. Yesterday, as thousands marched in Caracas in opposition of the proposed reform, the situation turned violent, leaving at least two people wounded by gunshots:
While the exact circumstances of the incident remained unclear, was the first time in the campaign there were serious injuries and came days after Chavez said the opposition wanted to stoke violence to destabilize the country. The OPEC nation’s civil defence chief, Antonio Rivero, told Globovision television station from the scene of the violence, that at least two people were shot and wounded.
The station showed images of hooded men throwing objects into university classes and other people, apparently students, running away.
In spite of the outcry among some sectors of society, polls expect Chavez to win the referendum which would allow him to govern “indefinitely”.
